Property Grouping and Context-Aware Runtime Enforcement
Modern complex systems are governed by multiple behavioural requirements that vary in importance, compatibility, and context. While some properties, particularly those concerning safety and correctness, must always be enforced, others may be context-dependent or desirable only under certain conditions. Traditional runtime enforcement approaches often treat all properties uniformly, leading to enforcement conflicts, inefficiencies, or undesirable system rigidity.
To address this, we first classify properties into three distinct groups: strict, soft and context-dependent and then we propose a context-aware runtime enforcement framework: strict properties must always hold, soft properties permit flexible enforcement, requiring at least one property to be satisfied, and context-dependent properties require selective enforcement. For each group, we define enforcement strategies and provide mechanisms to synthesize tailored enforcers that operate independently (each over its designated disjoint alphabets) and respect the group’s enforcement goals. This grouping-based approach enables the system to make priority-aware, conflict-resolving decisions at runtime.
