Detecting bugs in non-deterministic programs is notoriously difficult, as certain errors only manifest under highly specific conditions. Multiverse debugging has emerged as a promising technique to address this issue by allowing developers to systematically explore all possible program executions. However, multiverse debugging has thus far been restricted to specialized managed runtimes or models of programming languages. In this work, we overcome this limitation by expressing the core functionality of a multiverse debugger in terms of standard debug operations available in traditional debuggers. By building upon these standard debug operations, we pave the way for supporting multiverse debugging for a plethora of unmanaged languages, thereby making multiverse debugging significantly more accessible. We evaluate our approach by developing a prototype multiverse debugger for the C language on top of LLDB and comparing its performance overhead against the baseline LLDB debugger.
